PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!

February 9, 2021
patience is a virtue

While I was going through my week, A friend of mine who was giving their house back needed to re-paint it before giving it back. While we were doing a repaint, one of the things that we had to do included scraping off the old paint before we put the fresh new paint. As I scraped off the paint, in the beginning, it seemed easy and so much fun. But, as I continued to scrape off all the remaining paint, this process seemed to take more time than I thought that it would. I began to think to myself,” isn’t this what God does in our life while he creates something new in us, he scrapes of those old habits piece by piece as he creates something new in us?”.

Later the next day as I was gardening at a friend’s house, we were clearing up all the weeds and this meant cutting them from the stem of all the individual plants and sweeping them away. I then asked myself the same question, “isn’t this what God does in our lives to create something new in us?”. One thing in particular that caught my attention was the time it took for me to cut all the individual branches and scrape off the individual patches of paint. I began to become impatient and just wanted it to go faster. But it took some time and I just had to be patient.

As I reflected back into my own life, I began to realize all the different moments that God was working on my transformation and creating something new in me, building new habits and new characters in me. These processes of transformation were never instantaneous. So as I performed the two activities It had me seeing that God’s transformation in our lives can also be a process, it may take some time for God to mold us into the beings he wants us to become, to the purpose he has called us to and that he is very patient with us. Clearing out the old habits one by one.

From these two events, a beautiful picture of God’s great mercy was also depicted to me of how much our heavenly father cares about us, he is very very patient with us at every step even as we journey on this beautiful adventure to be transformed to be more and more like Christ. To help me remind myself of this, I constantly refer back to this bible verse in Philippians 1:6.

“I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]” – Philippians 1:6

Just as the gardening and painting took a lot of time and effort, it reminds me of the saying

“Rome was not built in a day.” And in deed, patience is a virtue! Knowing that the Lord is patient with us, we too need to be patient with him and with ourselves as well. We should not expect God to follow our timeline but trust in his timeline for our lives. The Holy Spirit lives within us and thus is able to bear the fruit of patience in us.

WAITING IN PURITY ~ENCOURAGEMENT FOR SINGLES

August 14, 2020
no fear just hope

As a single lady, one area that I’m sure a lot of us experience challenges is sexual intimacy.
The clamor for sex is sickening. The enemy dangles it in your face like you can’t do without it. You can’t damage your life before marriage. You have to step into it whole ~Hebrews 13:4. When you crave for something the most, it never comes your way. You don’t need to pleasure yourself in the bid to while away time i.e. masturbate. You need to pour yourself into an activity that brings self-worth, pride, and fulfillment.

Sometimes I feel left out? But then am I really? Life is in stages and everyone goes through them at different times Eccl 3:1-11. I am blessed with singleness, and I need to enjoy it and accomplish the unaccomplished goals. I noticed that when I start being idle the temptations arise. Therefore, don’t mark time, be involved, and bless lives.

Another area is purpose. I think sometimes we need to ask “Who am I? What are my strong attributes? Do I believe in myself?”. Here are some things I know about me.

I am bold, courageous, friendly, funny, I save well, I am brilliant, I have good ideas, I love to see things change, I love fries, chocolate, I have a knack for good things.
Most of all, I’m loved by the King of kings John 3:16

What then should define me? What God says or the compliments I have from people? The reason I ask these questions is that as a single lady, there are times I feel alone or maybe something’s wrong somewhere. So then I start to search for where those thoughts are coming from and question my motives or thought process ~Romans 12:2, Phil 4:8.

Here are more examples of those questions.
Do I think that when I don’t have a particular interest in a type of man, I’m not beautiful or attractive?
Am I a people pleaser than a God pleaser?
Do I always seek reaffirmation from people always?
Do I feel unworthy because I’m feeling not love-able? What baggage do I carry that hinders me from being free to be loved?

I honestly dread a bad testimony about me from people I have interacted with. The fear of them knowing my flaws makes me feel unworthy, unlovable and could make it difficult when actually someone might care.

I know some of you might be like me with all these thoughts. I just want to let you know that you are not alone. I find my strength daily in God’s word and here are a few of those I love are Ps 139:7-18, Phil5:6-7, Rom 8:28;35-39, Jer29:11, Eccl3:1-11, Jos1:7-9.

These verses encourage all the time knowing that He has a plan and being single is part of that, so I take my time to enjoy it to the fullest.

To all my single ladies out there, your best days are ahead of you. Keep your head high and wait in purity.

Love,

Seyi.
